The coin has been individually antiqued to give it a unique finish conveying the surface abrasions of an ancient artifact. As a result of this treatment, the appearance of each coin may vary.

The design's detailed background also shows representations of a village, a pagoda, a river, a "moon" bridge, traditional Chinese boats, mountains and swirling clouds. The Perth Mint’s "P125" mint mark is also featured, signifying the 125th anniversary of The Perth Mint.
