2015 1/4 oz Canada Maple Leaves 1990 Queen Effigy .9999 Gold Reverse Proof Coin w/ OGP

A Low-Mintage Tribute to Queen Elizabeth II

The 2015 1/4 oz Canada Maple Leaves Queen Elizabeth II 1990 Effigy .9999 Gold Reverse Proof Coin is a remarkably limited Royal Canadian Mint collector issue celebrating one of the historic portraits of Queen Elizabeth II used on Canadian circulating coinage.

Struck from 99.99% pure gold and limited to just 1,000 coins worldwide, this $10 Canadian gold coin combines the national symbolism of the maple leaf with a historic royal portrait in a specialized reverse-proof finish.

This is not an ordinary 2015 Gold Maple Leaf bullion coin. It was created specifically as a numismatic collector release within the Royal Canadian Mint's Effigies of Queen Elizabeth II Series.

The Historic 1990 Queen Elizabeth II Effigy

The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II that was introduced to Canadian circulation coinage in 1990, when the Queen was 64 years old.

The portrait was created by Hungarian-born Canadian sculptor Dora de Pédery-Hunt. Queen Elizabeth II is depicted wearing a jeweled tiara and pearl necklace.

Surrounding the portrait is the inscription:

ELIZABETH II D. G. REGINA

The Latin inscription identifies Elizabeth II as Queen “by the Grace of God.”

The portrait is especially significant in Canadian numismatic history because Dora de Pédery-Hunt became the first Canadian artist to design a royal effigy for Canadian coinage.

More Than Its Gold Content

While the coin contains approximately one-quarter troy ounce of .9999 fine gold, its appeal extends well beyond its intrinsic metal value.

The combination of an extremely low 1,000-coin mintage, Reverse Proof finish, historic 1990 Queen Elizabeth II effigy, twin maple leaf artwork, RCM collector packaging and series significance gives this coin a legitimate numismatic premium.

This makes it substantially different from an ordinary random-year 1/4 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf purchased primarily for its gold content.

For collectors of Royal Canadian Mint gold, historic Queen Elizabeth II portraiture, Canadian maple leaf designs or low-mintage modern gold coins, the 2015 Canada Maple Leaves 1990 Effigy Reverse Proof Gold Coin represents an especially scarce addition.
